You don’t have to sleeve up One With Nothing just yet, but at this rate, who knows what we’ll see next? While most people are basically saying "Just build Chainer", I think chainer is a terrible reanimator commander. If you do not combo off there's a high possibility that you'll just run out of steam when using a commander like Anje, plus you're probably moving away from the madness gameplan which further diminishes her value. These two wincons seem to synergize with one another (i.e. Honestly, the most competitive you'll get with Anje is probably some kind of combo deck.
Merciless Rage is a 100 card Commander preconstructed deck with a madness theme, featured in Commander 2019. I like the sound of that. Here is the thing, that is boring, and pretty much unfun for any non 75% pod ( and even then it plays very "samey ". This sounds good but I worry about graveyard hate just wiping this out. Things like Boneyard Parley, Hedonist’s Trove, and Bloodthirsty Blade could become Rise of the Dark Realms, Living Death, and Phyrexian Reclamation.
Option 1 is more interesting and a better possibility. I don't think that it is viable as a standalone gameplan. It is Rakdos colored ().1 The primary commander is Anje Falkenrath, and the secondary commanders are Chainer, Nightmare Adept and Greven, Predator Captain. using [[Anje Falkenrath]] to discard and draw on madness creatures would help get stuff in the graveyard and ping through option 2) but I would love to hear thoughts about other non-infinite combo wincons for this deck. Those cards often cost more than their regular counterparts, but offer either a cost reduction or some sort of value while being discarded and cast for their Madness cost. Your testing may find that you want to go outside of Rakdos to make your strategy more viable.
Our games will be spent discarding cards for value, and then finding ways to recur them as time goes on.
Commander 2019 introduced a Madness commander into the format, and it’s a great time to be a brewer.
As with any mechanic that has a fresh push from Wizards, there are going to be plenty of players that are excited to brew. Travis is a Connecticut-based player and writer, who has been turning things sideways since Starter 1999. If you want to lean more into a creature toolbox strategy, then Tortured Existence is a great way of using your graveyard as an extension of your hand. Right now I've just got the stock precon list. However, I do believe that it’s a fun and interesting angle to take with deckbuilding. However, if you lose that discard outlet, then you can find yourself a step or two behind the rest of the table. It’s certainly combo-y but not infinite. Do you have any other cards like Faith or Glint-Horn in your deck? As for table politics, you’re going to be in a strange position. Not to forget that chainer gives haste, to himself too as he isnt cast from hand, it can be relevent in some situation. Oh I love those both! Currently, I am ignoring option 2 as an option to be explored as what your talking about would be basically commander 8 rack. I figure if I can get stuff on the board that pings when I draw and discard cards then I might be able to put some pressure on peoples lifetotals. Commander 2019. Interesting thoughts about chainer. At that point, our deck becomes our own worst enemy.
Those are some great cards that I hadn’t seen before. Merciless Rage looks like a great starting point for that brewer out there, and will offer plenty of directions to grow with. It is illustrated by Raymond Swanland and is property of Wizards of the Coast LLC.
We can set up our value engine, but not try to run away with the game before we have a reasonable shot at winning.
