Considering he championed some relatively obscure(at the time) composers or specific works, it seems strange that Horowitz seemed so concerned about boring his audience. This is by far my favourite piano sonata and I am of the opinion that it is the shining pinnacle of all piano work - if this is ignorance then leave me in my bliss! Anyone who can play the Appassionata can work out for him/herself how long it is likely take to to learn the Hammerklavier. ESPAI JORQUERA, Barcelona I've printed it off and it seems within my reach, but I suppose I can hardly judge the difficulty of such a complex piece after playing through it a few times(I choose the Appassionata as a reference point because technically the difficulties are similiar - rapid perpetuum mobile playing and often awkward fingering).

lately, i got Schiff's and listened to it once, and was surprised that it's not bad, considering that i don't quite like some of earlier Beethoven sonatas he plays.
