Languages: Spanish, German, French, Russian, Japanese, Italian, Danish, Canadian-French. I don’t agree with their ‘teaching’ method which basically asks you to produce words and phrases in a language you have never learned before as quickly as possible. It is frankly insulting that they even attempt to charge people that much for what is essentially just one exercise you do over and over again on repeat as quickly as possible until you finally learn a word or phrase out of context. Good investment! As you may already have gathered, I didn’t particularly enjoy using Language101 and wasn’t convinced by its method.

When you grade yourself “Wrong” or “Some Mistakes,” you are scheduling it for review very quickly. Now, unfortunately, I am not too sure what the difference between the 1 and 1, 2 and 3 packages is but I have to assume you get more with the latter. Now, with a lot of platforms that would work, but with Language101 there is no real progression in difficulty between any of the beginner lessons; they all include complicated and not-so-complicated words and phrases.

Language development and disorders | It covers quite a lot of different topics and there were many more lessons than with their counterparts. Just ‘1 Package’ of your language of choice works out at $227. Tower of Babel | While some ‘gamification’ can undoubtedly encourage people to do better, I actually found this to be quite stressful. With Italian, for instance, you can work your way through Beginner Lessons 1 – 6 until you are suddenly presented with the Ultimate Beginners Lesson before that name for the lesson completely disappears. If you are interested in MANY languages, and like comparing various types (Russian w/ Polish; Sicilian w/ Italian; Finnish w/ Estonian, etc.) Other lessons might teach you numbers, colours, dates, or focus
