Reviewed in the United States on March 18, 2017. The neck is made of mahogany with an obvious heel joint and a very ugly one about ⅔ of the way up the neck itself. Kala is in no small part responsible for the strong resurgence of interest in ukuleles that we've seen since the mid 1990s. It was flawless, I still own it and adore it. Packaging was simple and nearly fully recyclable cardboard. Sounds great but doesn’t match the description exactly. Would definitely recommend this uke to anyone starting out! The bridge and nut are apparently made of a better than average material ("nubone xb") -- they made kind of a big deal of including tags to promote them. Our Sales Engineers are a world-class team of music gear experts whose sole job is to provide you with helpful advice and unparalleled service completely free of charge. The neck and frets are so smooth and easy to play on, I just love this instrument. Value-priced ukulele with quality construction, Soprano size delivers a classic island sound with percussive treble and glittering overtones, All-mahogany body produces a resonance that belies this uke's modest size, Geared die-cast tuners ensure reliable intonation, GraphTech NuBone nut and saddle yield superior sustain and vibrational transfer.
I chose this over other uke's on Amazon because kala has a reputation for quality instruments. Still, it looks like a ukulele!
You can still see all customer reviews for the product. The Kala MK-C concert ukulele features a mahogany top, back and sides with a nice satin finish that doesn’t pick up a lot of fingerprints.

It's edge bound with black to hide the fret ends but this too jars against the pale walnut and looks a bit odd, almost like an afterthought. I decided it would be nice to learn something new. The Kala KA-15S satin mahogany ukulele also features quality geared tuners, so you know your uke is working with you to stay in tune.
The quality control on this instrument is very good for something at this price.
I love the deeper sound and the dark wood, the white tuning knobs are perfect accents, every part of it is well made, and the sound is professional.

If you're looking for a virtually new instrument in possibly less-than-perfect packaging, this is a great value. It is plywood.
After having it for only a day and finally getting it tuned, I watched the DVD that comes with it.
I think they do similar series in some other scales too. Reviewed in the United States on August 19, 2018. The Aquila strings are wonderful: for the first few days out of the box, the strings are prone to falling out of tune, but the more it is played and broken in, the more it stays in tune.
Most photos come out also looking like the headstock wood is a totally different color than the body.
The neck is mahogany, and the fingerboard is walnut.
It's not massively pricey I suppose, but easy to match for similar or less money where you will also get more in looks and other extras.
It features a traditional mahogany body, giving you that classic ukulele look at an unbeatable value.
The baritone was developed in the 1940s and resembles a smaller tenor guitar. It delivers a classic island sound with percussive treble and glittering overtones. Only $53???!!! All it needs is a tiny bit of adjustment to be in tune. I realise Kala moved from rosewood to walnut back in the times of CITES restrictions, but with those eased for musical instruments I wish they would now move back.
The hard case is hard, but not in the classic sense I was expecting, you can't put stickers on the case because it has an outer fabric layer. It is a little padded, comes with an extra strap and honestly it’s so cute!
I would recommend this instrument. I gotta admit, I never imagined myself playing a ukulele before. Reviewed in the United States on April 2, 2020. The KA-15S is a real value, especially in light of how well it's built.
The " free lessons" only show you a couple bars of a song before they got you with the "upgrade to full version". Some players find the concert uke's longer-scale neck more comfortable to play.
Much better than those toy ukuleles found at souvenir shops.
The clip-on tuner it comes with is excellent, you have to toggle over to the ukulele setting, but it's easy to use and accurate.
The workmanship [or lack thereof] and quality control issues forced us returning it, and spending an additional $10 for the Kala Mahogany Soprano Ukulele. Ignoring the difficulty I had with fretting it's a pleasant sounding instrument for strumming in first positions.

Clearly not a total howler, but hard to put up as a solid recommendation in these times of great choice and value.
Not for me though.
In order to keep the neck proportional they probably had to dock the amount of frets, but that's fine. I don't think it's a setup issue as the nut and saddle are fine to my liking and I doubt very much it's down to the Aquilas.
They're both pretty much the same.

That's my only complaint.
